Ever dream of walking into your boss’s office and telling him to eat shit? no, just me.
It may not be the same message for you, but I bet it would be nice to leave your job and start making money online.
Here’s what that would mean for you
- No more waking up to an alarm.
- No more rushing and getting stuck in traffic only to get there late.
- This would mean more time to spend doing what you want, like spending time with your friends and loved ones.
- Even if you are not someone who hates their job, at some point it’s the feeling of there has to be something better than this.
First, I’ll cover how to leave your job then jump into how to start your blog and start profiting.
Make a decision
I won’t lie, it took me a while to get started blogging. and even then I did not take it that serious. I was doing a half ass job and was focused on other ventures.
Everything starts with a decision. If you desire to leave your job, make a commitment to go all in and stick with it.
Half ass effort will get you nowhere. It’s not complicated, you can literally start a blog in under six minutes. Starting it is easy, but you will still need to put in the effort of monetizing and growing it.
Note: Leaving your job does not mean up and quitting. You can start your business on the side to manage risk.
Invest in yourself
The reason people don’t make money is that it is more fun to spend than it is to invest. But investing in yourself rather than burning money on items that depreciate is more rewarding.
There is no such thing as extra money. And even if there was such thing, all extra cash that you have should be invested in your business.
Take some time to think about what you spend your money on right now, and decide what is and what is not important.
Put in the time
Remember what I said about not putting in half ass effort? blogging takes time. Blogs that are now successful required a lot of time and sacrifice for it to work.
Success does not come to those that have the time to go out partying and spending every minute of the day with friends. By all means, I am not saying you cannot enjoy your life, but you will have to decide how important this is to you. The time you put in will reflect that.
My friends just wanted to go out drinking and smoking. That’s a waste of life, I decided my time would be better spent at home working on my business, building a future for myself and the ones I hold dear. It’s tedious and boring, but I still did it.
What is a blog exactly?
You’ve probably read a few blogs if you have been on the internet. You are actually reading one now.
A blog is a type of website. It is updated on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and is usually operated by an individual or small group.
most of the time you will be able to tell the difference between a website and a blog. Websites focus on selling services and products, not so much content, but I would not worry so much about learning the difference between these two.
Get a domain name
What domain name should you choose? That all depends on the niche you are going after. But a few pointers here. Keep it simple, unique and easy to spell. If readers can’t spell or remember your domain name, you will have a hard time building it as a brand.
Here are a list of profitable niches to look at. You can also target sub-niches of these categories. Choose your name wisely. I chose the name Entrepreneurboy. The benefit of that is that I could cover all of those topics below if I like, and will slowly do just that for most of them.
To register your domain name, I recommend Namecheap.

Choose the best host
I started on a bad end with this. At the time, everyone was recommending Bluehost and I made the mistake of signing up with them. It was a nightmare and after a few years, I switched to Siteground. I now pay $100 less, with faster speed, no site crashes and amazing support that answer chat in less than five minutes.
Siteground has consistently come out on top year after year on several Facebook polls. That’s because people know who the best host is.
Starting a blog is great, but if your time is spent dealing with your bad host and not blogging, you will not get far. If you are familiar with blogging and are ready to get started, you can use this link to get 60% off when you sign up with Siteground.
How to not look like a newbie blog
One thing to note, people don’t like reading from newbie bloggers. Many bloggers still make these mistakes that make their blog look like it was just created. but no worries. I wrote a guide on this to give you a head start in front of most of the bloggers starting out.
How blogs make money and how to monetize your blog
There are several different ways to make money blogging. You can do various advertisement, ad placements and sponsored posts
But what you will notice with blogs that are truly successful, they either sell their own products, or they make money promoting affiliate products.
Look, if you are just starting out, ignore what everyone is telling you about using Google ads. You will not make any money that way. The people who profit with Google ads are big sites that get millions of page views daily.
If you look on this blog you will see I decided to go with my own products and started a store, but you can also sell e-products. They do really well. Online courses, e-books, webinars, etc. And they cost you little to nothing.
I know you might be a bit skeptical, but quitting your job to blog full time is possible with the right steps.
Write content that falls in line with what you promote and add in the affiliate links in the right places.
An example. If I write a post on starting a blog, I will add a link to Siteground. That is an affiliate link. I trust them and stand behind them and believe they are the best. You get what you pay for.
Always recommend affiliates you love and have good experience with. Bad products give you a sale, but you lose a reader/customer forever. The blog who recommended Bluehost to me, I used to be a big reader of theirs but because of how horrible Bluehost was for me I never read their blog again, let alone recommend them to anyone anymore.
Ready to get started
I wish you success. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.
